What is Synchronized Team Skating? Synchronized Team Skating (formerly known as Precision Team Skating) has been an emerging discipline within the United States and international skating communities throughout the past decade. It is a highly technical form of team skating characterized by speed, accuracy, intricate formations and breathtaking transitions typically performed by teams of 8-20 skaters. This specialized discipline requires skaters to have excellent skating skills so they can perform intricate step sequences, difficult hand holds and quick changes of direction with the highest level of precision. Elements of Synchronized Skating Line Maneuvers made up of 1-2 row(s) that move either straight or curved across the ice (i.e., straight line, horizontal line, parallel lines and all variations thereof) What To Look For: Straightness of the line Direction on the line Type and quality of holds Direction of skating Quality and difficulty of step sequences Speed Cleanness of edges Circle Maneuvers that revolve around a common center. (i.e., single, double, triple, stationary or traveling circles) What To Look For: Roundness of the circle Spacing between team members Type and quality of holds Direction of skating Quality and difficulty of step sequences Control of rotation Speed and cleanness of edges Block Maneuvers made up of three(3) or more lines in varying shapes that move as a unit. (i.e., closed, open blocks) What To Look For: Type of configuration Spacing between lines Type and quality of the holds Direction of the block Quality and difficulty of step sequences Direction of skating Speed and cleanness of edges Wheel Maneuvers where varied formations rotate around a pivot point. (i.e., 2-3, 4-5, 5-6 spoke wheels, parallel wheels, 5-wheels, interlocking wheels, traveling wheels) What To Look For: Type of wheel Type and quality of holds Control of rotation Speed of the wheel Equal spacing of spokes Quality of step sequences Cleanness of edges Combinations and/or variations of the transitions Intersection Maneuvers made up of two or more lines that cross.
